What are the 4 types of cancer?
Four main types of cancer are:
- Carcinomas. A carcinoma begins in the skin or the tissue that covers the surface of internal organs and glands.
- Sarcomas. A sarcoma begins in the tissues that support and connect the body.
- Leukemias. Leukemia is a cancer of the blood.
- Lymphomas.
How does cancer affect the body?
A cancer can grow into,or begin to push on nearby organs, blood vessels, and nerves. This pressure causes some of the signs and symptoms of cancer. A cancer may also cause symptoms like fever, extreme tiredness (fatigue), or weight loss. This may be because cancer cells use up much of the body’s energy supply.
How does cancer cause death?
For some people, the cancer can’t be controlled anymore and spreads to healthy tissues and organs. Cancer cells take up the needed space and nutrients that the healthy organs would use. As a result, the healthy organs can no longer function. For other people, complications from treatment can cause death.
